I first blogged about these over at Craft Love, but I wanted to share them over here, too! Originally intended for donations (we don't actually have any cats!), they also make great gifts, kiddo projects, or just a random spoil-your-kitty surprise! Let's be honest - these sort of look like little ghosts, don't they? The Anti-Cruelty Society calls them "kitty sachets" and offers a great hand-drawn tutorial on their website, but to me they will always remind me of little ghosts. But call them whatever you want - cats will love them and they are easy to make with or without catnip added! What you need:
Cut your fabric into approximately 6x6 square. (Here, as in all these projects I make, perfect is neither necessary or even desired. The cats won't care if your square is a little - or even a lot - lop-sized! As long as they fit around that pom pom, they're good to use!) If you're using catnip, roll the cotton ball or pom pom in some loose catnip. Then place it in the center of the fabric. (Note: Feel free to use those less-desirable colors of pom poms. No one will see them once the toy is finished!) Wrap the fabric around the pom pom (see the ghost-like shape now?!) Cut off a large piece of yarn (I used about 18 inches and then trimmed it down later). Wrap the yarn just under the pom pom, pulling tight to make it secure. Then trim off the extra yarn so that only a little is left over (if left too long, cats can swallow and choke on the yarn). That's it! Who are you doing to make these for? Love it? Pin it!
