I have a new hobby - sewing! I'm still a beginner (although Little Miss 12 told me, "You've been doing it, like, a month now - you're not a beginner anymore!" Thanks, Sweetie...) but I'm having a blast making trick-or-treat bags for Halloween. Once I nailed those tricky boxed corners there was just no stopping me! Of course I've been scoping out Pinterest and my favorite crafty bloggers for inspiration and new ideas. The best part is there's no need to be a sewer to put most of these babies together. Some have sewing instructions, but you can always start with a store-bought plain bag and go from there. Let's get creating! 1. Simple but trendy applique design - and a great excuse to wander through the holiday fabrics to find the just right fit (a new favorite pastime of mine!) (DIY Candy) 2. Felt is my favorite fabric to work with - no fraying makes it great for newbies! But really, can we just focus on those awesome button eyes on Frankenstein here?! Includes tutorial and free template for Mr. Frank as well as a jack-o-lantern and bat. (Homemade by Jill - blog private now, but sharing the photo for inspiration!) 3. We made this bag for trick-or-treating using supplies from the dollar store. We just used a pre-made bag and Halloween stickers. Total cost: $2. Craftiness skill level: Ridiculously simple! (Our Whimsical Days) 4. Googly eyes get me every time. These personalized bags were made with heat transfer vinyl, something I really need to try in the near future! (Crazy Little Projects) 5. A bag that's also a toy? What will these creative bloggers think of next? This one features a Velcro spider web with spiders that actually move. (Maybe a little too realistic for me? hehe!) (Merriment Designs) 6. Glow-in-the-dark paint make these bags a *glowing* success! (Sorry, bad pun - couldn't help myself!) (The Sweetest Occasion) 7. For the kiddos who go for all things creepy, this mummy bag is it! (PopSugar) 8. I've already mentioned I love felt. And I've always loved monsters (the cute, want-to-cuddle-them kind, not the scary, give-you-nightmares kind). Oh, this bag is just a win in so many ways! (The Piper's Girls) 9. Everyone's favorite candy inspired this fun bag! This blogger sewed it together, but I'm thinking painting a canvas bag would do the trick and be just as colorfully yummy! (Wine And Glue) 10. Slightly beyond my sewing skills as of now, but a shark bag is just too cute to skip over! (Stitched by Crystal) 11. Duct tape - that other material you can use for almost anything, even making a practical tote bag just right for carrying candy galore! (Finding Bonggamom) 12. Free tutorial for 2 different styles - check out that cat! (Created by V) 13. I just LOVE these! Super-cute AND soft? I want one (or 6!) (Making the World Cuter) 14. You won't believe how this mama made these bags to actually glow - no special paint needed! (Hint: Glow sticks are involved in the coolest way!) (Stuff By Ash) 15. This friendly ghost was made with iron-on vinyl. Sadly, the free download is no longer available, but the inspiration is worth a look! (Sarah Hearts) 16. This one is a little tricky - zippers frighten me, sewing-wise (there, I said it!). But you can't deny he's one memorable character! (Damask Love) 17. Another one that takes a bit of prep, but the silhouette design is certain to be a one-of-a-kind creation! (Uncommon Designs) 18. Free pattern and tutorial to make Frankenstein, a ghost, or a pumpkin. Decisions, decisions... (5 Little Monsters)
